Begin by watching the Real World Food Chain movie from Discovery Education
Real World Food Chains
Every ecosystem has:
- Producers - any living thing that produces its own food
- Consumers - need to eat other plants or animals to survive (prey, predators)
- Decomposers - organisms that recycle other dead plants or animals
What is a biome? - a major regional or global living community characterized by its dominant organisms and climate.
- Group 1-Arctic Tundra
- Group 2-Coniferous Forest
- Group 3-Deciduous Forest
- Group 4-Desert
- Group 5-Grassland
- Group 6-Aquatic Biome
- Group 7-Rainforest Biome

Use the link below to go to Discovery Education and watch a short video about your group's ecosystem.3. By yourself:
Visit Discovery Education
- How Animals Adapt to their Environments - look for your biome
Planning - Each group is going to create a stop motion animation that describes a food chain in their biome. You need to be able to show the following:
- what the climate is like
- producers
- consumers
- decomposers
The first step in planning your movie is to complete the following planning sheet
Planning Sheet - part 1 - print 1 copy for your group, fill it out and turn it in.
5. Independent Research:You can go back to Discovery Education and search for your biome
You can go to BrainPop and learn more about ecosystems, land biomes and food chainsYou can go to Power Knowledge (from our library website - Follett Shelf - Digital Resources - Power Knowledge Life Science) and search for Habitats & Ecosystems or Food Chains and Food Webs
