The Water Cycle
During PLC visits our 2nd grade classes worked on creating animations of the Water Cycle using Scratch Jr. We watched movies and sang songs about the Water Cycle and then we began making preparing to do our animations. This involved:
- Creating a new project and giving it a name
- Creating a background image using the paint feature of Scratch Jr. to use for the pages in our project. Our background needed to have the ocean, the land, and the sky. It could also have a waterfall running off into the ocean. Our last group to do this project included a cloud in their background
- Creating a page for each stage of the water cycle, adding the background to the page and using the text tool to label it with the appropriate label (The Water Cycle - title, Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation)
- Making characters that were going to move (sun, sun rays, water vapor, water droplets, rain, Drippy) using the paint tool and a stylus.
- Programming the animation for each page using
- Start on green flag block
- Move forward, Move up
- Grow
- Disappear
- Reset
- Repeat for x times
- Repeat forever
- Move to next slide
