Are honey bees insects?
Honey bees have these body parts:
- a hypopharangeal gland to secrete a liquid protein for larva
- a head
- 2 compound eyes and 3 simple eyes. The honey bee can not see the color red.
- 2 antennae
- proboscis to drink nectar
- thorax and abdomen - the legs and wings are attached to the thorax. The abdomen has a “honey stomach” for carrying nectar. There is a sting at the end of the abdomen.
- 3 pairs of jointed legs -the front legs are used to clean the antennae. The back legs are used to collect pollen.
- 2 pairs of wings
