Vision/Mission Planning - Part 4 (January 20, 2015) - Voluntary - small group
Part 1: For this voluntary planning meeting we're going to be working with our compiled beliefs. After last week's staff meeting, a small group met and went through the compiled beliefs that everyone turned in. We eliminated duplicates, had some questions about some of the entries and put it all together in a list to work with today. We want to honor everyone's beliefs and come to agreement about the items that we'll actually put onto our school's vision documents (We all need to be able to support these items before they become a part of our document.).
Goal for today: Further break down the compiled beliefs and organize them into a vision planning form.
Today we'll be breaking in smaller groups and each small group will work with one of the 4 areas (curriculum, instruction, assessment, and environment). We need one recorder for each group to enter thoughts into the google doc for your group.

Environment
Individual group members will each have a copy of the beliefs for their specific area (print the one you need - Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, Environment). On these copies please identify which column the belief best fits (Component, What it looks like, Actions, Evidence). Note these fits on your individual sheets. Any that you don't understand, check and see if a group member understands the belief. One's that you're not sure about, mark so that we can follow up on them. Your group recorder will place them in the column that your group agrees on. Feel free to group like items and if it's ok with the group, come up with a synonym for the grouping. When putting this into your group form include all items of the group in parentheses along with the new synonym.
Part 2: If we have time - Compare the sample vision documents with the ones we created and eliminate items that don't fit and add items that need to be added.

Vision/Mission Planning - Part 3 (January 14, 2014)
Working meeting at Victoria Bernhardt: Our team (Chad, Jonelle, Chris, Lianne, Krista, and Debi) completed their second day with Victoria Bernhardt and finalized a draft of our school's mission statement by putting together option #2 and option #4. It's ready now for staff approval.
Option 2: Leadership, Ohana, Legacy: At Pu’u Kukui we inspire a legacy of leadership and a love for learning where we BELIEVE, we ACHIEVE and we LEAD!
Option 4: Leadership, Ohana, Respect: Inspire a legacy of excellence by creating a safe and positive learning environment for every student through LEADERSHIP, OHANA, and RESPECT!
Our blended idea:
At Pu’u Kukui we inspire a legacy of excellence by creating a safe, positive, and respectful learning ‘ohana where we BELIEVE, ACHIEVE, and LEAD.
Moving forward:
We were told that we were eligible for supplemental funding to support our school's Academic and Financial Plan. To qualify we need to move up our due date on the AC/FIN Plan to March 1st. Working backward, we have a lot of work to do in order to meet this deadline. Brainstorming how to get all the work done, we came up with the following ideas:
1. Voluntary work sessions for staff members who are able to attend (Tuesday, January 20th, and Friday, January 30th). These will be 1 hour work sessions where we'll look at components of our vision plan.
2. Problem Solving Process - Jonelle will work this into PLCs for Reading and Math.
3. Vision small group will continue to work in between large group sessions to refine work from large group sessions and populate the Academic Plan with carryovers from last year and research for supplemental plan.
4. Share Academic Plan with staff for input (February)
5. Public input and SCC input (February).
6. Submit final plan and request for supplemental funds (February 27th)
Krista made a flow chart to help with understanding of the Process we're undertaking to show how everything fits together.
Today's work:
1. Independently jot down factors that you believe support effective learning for your students in the following areas:
3. See all group responses to the Creating a Vision Form.

DEFINITIONS -
Strengths: Something positive that can be seen in the data. Often leverage for improving a challenge.
Challenges: Data that imply something might need attention, a potential undesirable result, or something out of a school's control.
Implications for the School Improvement Plan: Are placeholders until all the data are analyzed. Implications are thoughts to not forget to address in the school improvement plan. Implications most often result from CHALLENGES. - Victoria Bernhardt
SCHOOL PROCESSES - Schools are perfectly designed to get the results they are getting now. If schools want different results, they must measure and then change their processes to create the results they really want. - Victoria Bernhardt
