Mrs. Sparkman's kindergartners have been working on making circles, ovals, dots and different kinds of lines. Today they put everything together and made bunnies using KidPix. Here's there bunny gallery. Our Kindergartners are learning to drag and drop with a computer mouse and they're learning about how different shapes can be put together to make a picture. Here's some of their Rudolphs!
We read the story Duck, Rabbit and then we began making our own ducks and rabbits. We drew for a while before anyone could tell whether we were making a duck or a rabbit. Mrs. Migita's class researched the green sea turtle during their library classes with Mrs. Yoshizu. This is what they learned about turtles. Then they looked at how to draw the green sea turtle. In the computer lab with Mrs. Tisdell, the children explored the different shapes in a green turtle and they used KidPix to draw and paint their own turtles. Here's their turtles.
We've been looking for shapes in pictures of different kinds of animals. Now we're working on using shapes to draw animals. We read the book, Inside a Barn in the Country, and looked at all the farm animals that lived in the barn. We tried to think of two words to describe each animal and then we used some examples to help us draw our own animals. We're going to make a movie when we get all the pieces put together.
Here's our movies. We wrote new lyrics to Down on Grandpa's Farm (by Raffi), and used our juicy words to describe the animals you'd find on a farm. Then we made pictures of farm animals and farms. We put them together to make these movies.
We did research with Mrs. Yoshizu and learned all about sea turtles. Here's what we remember:
We looked at how to draw turtles and here's our KidPix turtles. We tried to draw like a scientist and include important details about our turtles. We researched the green sea turtle in the library with Mrs. Yoshizu. This is what we remember about the honu.
It has scales. It goes to the cleaning station and the fish clean the turtle's shell. It lays eggs in a hole in the sand. It lives in the ocean. It eats green sea grass. It is cold blooded. It stays under water for a long time. It breathes air. It is a reptile. It can travel long distances. Sometimes it has little lumps on its back and the man has to fix it. Here's our pictures of turtles in their habitat (home). We used a lot of oval shapes to make our turtles. Today we practiced making fish by using different sizes of ovals. We drew the outlines in black and then we filled in our fish with blended colors. Finally we added details and our names. Here's what it looked like.
Today we looked at cartoon pictures of fish and discovered that you could make a fish by putting oval shapes together. Here's what our fish looked like while we were working on them.
