Here's the link to the code.org studio site. We'll be working with course #1.
Day 1 - We visited Discovery Education and began learning about the Wright Brothers by watching Animated Hero Classics and talked about how our lives would be different if we didn't have airplanes.
Day 2 - We began working with summarizing resources by looking for key words - make a copy of the information from PebbleGo about the Wright Brothers. This will bring up a google doc that we practiced editing out everything except for the key words. Mrs. Chang's class-
What do we enjoy? -I liked taking turns. -Sharing the computers and getting to know the person better -I liked guiding the bee through the bee sequence . -Trying to run to the pig was fun. -When you have a chance and make a mistake they give you another chance. -I liked how you got to jump to the pig to smash him. What was challenging? -The bee was challenging because you have to pick the sides and sometimes it's wrong. We tried. -The drawing one was hard. Sometimes you did it wrong. You have to try again. -The pig was challenging the angry bird, but the bird smashed the pig. -The bee was challenging because you had to collect the nectar. If you don't collect you have to restart. Mrs. Locke's class
What do we like? Putting the pieces together is fun. I like that we had to push the arrows to control the angry bird and when you press the go button you defeat the pig (the bad guys). I liked it because in the first level it was easy. I liked the happy face one because it's like you put the pieces together and it was fun to figure it out. When you control the angry bird and you make a mistake it might run into the TNT and it will explode. I like it when you run into the pigs and jump on them and then there's smoke. I like it when the piggies explode when you run into them. Challenges we faced? One of the challenges on the angry bird one was I didn't really get what it meant to put the pieces together. We figured it out by watching the video again. It was hard because if you put too many of one direction it would run into things. We redid it and we thought about what the problem was and we figured it out. It's challenging on the angry birds because there's sometimes really squiggly lines and it's really hard to get through. We looked at the video and we tried doing the squiggly and then we figured out how to go squiqqly. For our first visit to the computer lab we shared our thoughts about what's important in the computer lab. We learned about "Techies" and "Hands and Eyes" and we used our laptops for the very first time.
On our second visit to the lab we read ish (by Peter Reynolds) and we learned how to use the graphics tablets. We practiced drawing -ishly because the graphics tablets take a little while to get used to. We worked on drawing different shape elements.
Today we had a shorter PLC time so we worked in the computer lab. Mrs. Tisdell had some letters, numbers and symbols on the board and we worked with our partners to guess what they stood for. Here's what we thought. After talking about it, most of us thought it had something to do with directions.
